My Chanel Sew Along Jacket is my weekday project. I only work on it minus husband and children! This weekend, I am cutting out pattern pieces for McCalls 5531. Tomorrow I will try to whip up a quick muslin.I bought this pattern last spring with a raincoat in mind. Instead, I am whipping up a wool tweed jacket in the shorter version with banded collar, view B, and 3/4 length sleeve, view A. I am inspired by a street fashion that I saw today. My husband and son go to an old time barber that my husband has gone to since he was a boy! It is in the financial district so it is both inconvenient and expensive, but tradition rules on this one. Usually it is a father and son Saturday event, but the girls and I decided to tag along for shopping on Michigan Avenue. I am not a huge shopper so my mind is on overload with ideas right now especially the use of silk taffeta for a jacket and a cap sleeve black velvet dress...more on that later.... For this particular pattern, I saw a trendy woman wearing at brown tweed jacket which was styled like view A of this pattern. She wore it with jeans and brown suede boots. Well...a light bulb went on--
1. I have a pattern like it!
2. I have brown tweed in my stash
3. I own brown suede boots
4. And jeans...well, that is a given!
Bingo, my next project!
And...now that I think of it...wouldn't this pattern look cute in silk taffeta?

I love that pattern and can't wait to see it made up.
That is such a cute pattern.
Go for it! That sounds great. You make me want to run out and buy this pattern and some brown tweed myself.
I've lived in London the last 8 years. Not much tweed around really. Just rich old people in the country wearing it. And now, all of a sudden it is uber trendy. Everyone wants to wear in all sorts of styles.
I missed this pattern. What a cutie. Course I need another pattern like a hole in the head.
Great alligator story. If we have to go to jail, maybe we can be cellmates.
Yes, I'd love to see it in silk taffeta.
I've never made a coat and probably never will (for sanity sake), but your whole concept for this project sounds very smart! I'm looking forward to the finished projuct.
That looks like a great pattern, I can't wait to see it made up!
I saw a version of the short jacket in denim on PR.com and it was really cute! Look forward to seeing yours!
I think it would look smashing in tafetta. I'm sending you an email re an idea to try on the muslin.
Oh, that's going to be so cute! And I can totally see it in taffeta.
Sounds great. I can't wait to see your version!
